Q. How is each parish goal determined?

A. Each parish is responsible for its share of the cost of providing diocesan programs, services and other expenses associated with the diocese. In our diocese goals are determined by a formula that calculates the number of households in the parish and the financial support to their parish.  Refer to How is your parish goal set.

Q. How much should I pledge?

A. Your CFSA pledge is part of your prayerful decision process. First consider the many ways God has blessed you and your loved ones, then make a generous pledge that says how grateful you are for God’s gifts.

Q. Was last year’s goal met?

A. Yes, CFSA 2007 received pledges of $3,504,026 toward its $3,007,000 goal. Which means almost $500,000 remained in the parishes.  To see the history of CFSA giving check this History of Giving section.

Q. What is the CFSA 2008 Goal?

A. CFSA 2008 has an increase of 2.73% making this year’s goal $3,080,000.

Q. How does my parish benefit from the appeal?

A. The appeal draws parishioners together towards one common goal, recognizing that we are part of the larger church. Parishes that exceed their parish goals keep every dollar over that goal for their own use. The money received by the diocese continues the ministries which strive to reach out to the church of eastern South Dakota.

Q. I thought CFSA covered Seminarian Education, why did we have the Seminarian Education Appeal?

A. CFSA annually provides about 1/4 of the seminarian and clergy education budget. The remaining funding is attained through events such as The Bishop’s Fishing Tournaments which take place in Big Stone City and Gettysburg, endowments within the Catholic Foundation for Eastern South Dakota and generous individuals in our diocese. This year we also carried out the Seminarian Education Appeal to complete this areas funding.

Q. Can I make a gift of stock to the appeal and will it benefit my parish?

A. Yes. For more information contact Kelly Bartmann at 605-988-3777.

Q. Why not roll these seminarian education expenses into CFSA?

A. Rolling the seminarian education expenses into CFSA would require a significant increase in the annual appeal along with the regular increase for existing programs. Carrying out the appeal allows those most interested to participate in helping meet the seminarian education need.

Q. Why do we keep the donation made through the diocesan phone campaign?

A. It is encouraged that each parish will conduct a follow-up process yet some parishes will only carry out part of a follow-up process.  At the end of the parish phase if the parish does not contact us we will conclude that the parish has contacted their members.  We will then carry out our own process of connecting to these households.

This process is important to the overall goal. Each year we will be able to raise significant funds to help cover the overall goal.
